Freshman Megan Morgan recaps the final two full days at Fort Flagler
This morning was a bittersweet morning¡Ksweet as we were surrounded by old teammates and newly made friends, bitter because today was our last day. The team headed out for an early morning run on the trails surrounding camp. Those Huskies taking the day off, hit the kitchen. The goal: to cook as much of the extra food as possible, and to get our teammates to eat as much of it as they could. Lauren Saylor, Sean Krinik and myself created a massive breakfast display while Kenna Patrick kept us company as she pedaled away on the stationary bike that had been conveniently traveled all the way from Seattle. We pulled out boxes full of bread loaves, took out carton after carton of fresh eggs and got to work. Between batches of multi-dozen scrambled eggs, Sean Krinik (giant spatula in hand) cooked up delicious French toast with a cinnamon-sugar mixture sprinkled on top for extra taste, and all the while acting like a professional restaurant chef. PROVO, Utah -- Through all the angst, the missed passes, the special-teams woes, after another late, heartbreaking loss on the road, these new Huskies had a pointed message for their doubters.
"We're not the same old Huskies," middle linebacker Cort Dennison said on the ramp leading out of LaVell Edwards Stadium minutes after BYU held off the Huskies 23-17 in the season opener on a taut, hot Saturday night in the Wasatch Mountains.
"Obviously, we're disappointed. But I've never seen a group more determined," said Dennison, who made his first start at middle linebacker in front of about 40 friends and family down from nearby Salt Lake City.
"We know we let a game get away from us. We realize there is still plenty of season left and we can do some great things." More

PORTLAND, Ore. - It was an unconventional end to a hard fought game and the Huskies came away with a 1-0 win and their first victory of the season over Northern Illinois in the Portland/Nike Invitational. Washington improves to 1-1-0 on the year.
The game's lone goal did not come off of a Husky foot, rather the hands of forward Brent Richards. In the 73rd minute, Richards threw the ball in parallel to the goal as the ball went off of the NIU goalkeeper, Jordan Godsey, and into the net. Rules state that a player can score a goal on a throw in if it goes off of a defender, which was the case here.
It was the first goal of the season for Richards, a junior from Camas, Wash., who was the team's leading goal scorer a year ago.
Both Washington and NIU had 11 shots in the match with UW have six in the first. Dylan Tucker-Gangnes, a sophomore from Bainbridge Island, Wash., led the way with three shots, two on goal. Senior Matt Van Houten was second on the team with two shots playing in his hometown of Portland. More
