Husky Women Can't Find Legs Against Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - For the second straight game, the Huskies were trailing by double-digit points at halftime to an Arizona school. This time, there was no rally available in their tanks.

A slow start led to an 80-50 defeat to the University of Arizona at the McKale Center. From the onset, the Huskies (9-12, 4-7 in the Pac-10) struggled to connect on jumpers; a sign the early tip-off time (11:00 AM PST) might have been a factor after UW had played a draining overtime game against Arizona State in the opening game of the trip.

Laura McLellan was a late addition to the starting lineup and did plenty of heavy lifting on the offensive end, finishing with 18 points and six rebounds to cap a fantastic weekend. More

Husky Men Scorch Sun Devils, 79-56

Isaiah Thomas laughed while making no-look passes that led to easy dunks. Washington's diminutive dynamo constantly jumped up and down as if on a pogo stick and crashed into teammates' chests following made baskets, good defensive plays - even mistakes.

"Yeah, just having fun out there," Thomas said. "We found a little thing we do, something new now."

Including win consistently.

Thomas responded from being benched the game before to score 17 points, Quincy Pondexter added 17 and the revived Huskies rolled early and then cruised to a 79-56 victory over Arizona State on Saturday night.

Justin Holiday had seven points, 10 rebounds and another game-changing night of defense as Washington (16-7, 6-5 Pac-10) completed a weekend blowout of both Arizona schools that had routed the Huskies in the desert last month. More

No. 24 Husky Gymnasts Earn Two Victories in Quad Meet

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 24 Washington gymnastics team picked up its first two victories of the season and more importantly put together a solid score on the road, compiling a total of 194.075 against No. 8 Stanford, Sacramento State and San Jose State at Burnham Pavilion.
The Huskies put together their third-highest score in five meets this season and recovered from a poor performance in their first road meet of the season two weeks ago. With road scores counting heavily toward the all-important Regional Qualifying Score, the Huskies needed to bounce back from a season low 192.800 at No. 6 Oregon State.

The GymDawgs did just that and picked up two victories along the way to improve to 2-5 on the season. Stanford won the meet with 196.650 while the Huskies' score was enough to overcome third-place San Jose State (192.85) and Sacramento State (183.38).

UW finished second to Stanford on three of four events (vault, bars and beam), posting their best score of the day on floor (48.775). UW also had their second-best score of the year on vault, an event that has posed problems for the team all year. More

Drabble Rallies to Clinch 4-5 Win for UW Over Bucs

Washington men's tennis looked to its senior captain this afternoon when the outcome was in doubt, and Derek Drabble rose to the challenge, reeling off the final six games to win his No. 3 singles match in three sets and clinch a 4-3 win for the 24th-ranked Huskies over 60th-ranked East Tennessee State. Washington wins the Great Northwest Shootout for the first time since 2007 and improves to 7-1 on the season.

Drabble was facing a talented freshman, Jesus Bandres, who is ranked 51st nationally. Early on both players held serve routinely, with Drabble breaking late to win the first set, 6-4. The second set went to a tiebreak, and after overcoming a 0-5 hole, Drabble had a match point at 7-6 in the breaker, but Bandres fought it off and converted his next set point to win the breaker, 9-7, and force a third set.
